HEUR | Arkema Rheology & Specialty Additives

HEUR, Hydrophobically Ethoxylated URethane polymers polymers are polyurethane-type nonionic thickeners.
They impart viscosity through their interaction with the hydrophobic surfaces present in the formulation.
Adjusting the geometry of the hydrophobic groups allows rheology to be adjusted.

How does it work?

HEUR rheology modifiers act on the viscosity of formulations through:

the polymer solubility thanks to the hydrophilic chain
the associativity between binders/surfactants and the hydrophobic end groups
The self-assembly mechanism depending on the design of the hydrophobic end groups

They are nonionic thickeners thus pH adjustment is not mandatory.
