On December 2nd, the 2024 Asia Coatings Innovation Technology Pioneer Forum and the 2024 Asian Coatings Industry Pioneer Award Ceremony were successfully held in Guangzhou. This forum aimed to summarize the annual Coatings innovation technologies, gather industry pioneers, establish a win-win ecosystem, and break through the barriers of industry-university-research-investment transformation. Arkema was invited to attend this forum.
With outstanding performances in technological innovation, product research and development, social responsibility, and environmental protection practices, Arkema won the "2024 Asian Coatings Industry Environmental Pioneer Award". During the forum, Mr. Han Zhigang, the technical service manager of Arkema's coating solutions, shared "Arkema's Industrial Coating Innovation Solutions" with the audiences, and the on-site response was enthusiastic.
Arkema China is fully promoting decarbonization and sustainable transformation. This award is not only a recognition of Arkema's efforts in environmental protection, but also strengthens Arkema's determination for green development. At the same time, we are very honored to see that more and more enterprises recognize the importance of green development and join in through various initiatives and practices, leading the industry towards a greener and more sustainable future.”
The ISCC+ certification covers all stages of the value chain and ensures the use of renewable materials. It is an internationally recognized certification system for the mass balance method. The application of the mass balance method enables Arkema to launch a series of new bio-based resins, additives, and other products.
Arkema's ISCC+ certified business in China has continuously made important progress. The products of its Changshu plant and Guangzhou Sartomer plant have successfully obtained ISCC+ certification. At the same time, the Taixing plant has officially launched its ISCC+ certified acrylic acid business. Through these initiatives, Arkema will offer customers more competitive sustainable product options, accelerating the industry's green transition.
During the "Capital Market Day" event held in September last year, the Arkema Group announced that it would use the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to certify its 1.5°C emission reduction path, further strengthening decarbonization measures and paving the way for achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Arkema China is fully promoting decarbonization and sustainable transformation, and green energy procurement is a key measure to accelerate the achievement of emission reduction goals. To deepen the cooperation in green electricity, Arkema signed a ten-year green electricity procurement letter of intent and a green certificate procurement agreement with its partners, covering almost all Arkema's factories in China. By 2030, the implementation of these two agreements will help Arkema China reduce approximately 75,000 tons of "Scope 2" carbon dioxide emissions. Arkema China also plans to continue to expand green energy procurement to consolidate its leadership position in the field of sustainable development.
Arkema will continue to be committed to promoting the green development of the industry through technological innovation and environmental protection practices and contribute to the achievement of global sustainable development goals. We look forward to working with all industry colleagues to jointly create a better and sustainable future for the Coatings industry.

3 key point about mass balance solutions
- What is mass balance?
- How does mass balance work?
- Opportunity to support product differentiation
* Mass Balance: Mass balance chain of custody is designed to track the total amount of the content in scope through the production system and ensure an appropriate allocation of this content to the finished goods based on auditable bookkeeping. Property conservation principle is set to ensure that the total certified output does not exceed its original input and take into account the appropriate conversion losses and production / assembly ratios. “The ISSC+ certification of the whole supply chain guarantees that the origin of the renewable sources meets ISCC+ standards for sustainable feedstocks.
